Without a Plumbing Inspection, Home Buyers Are In The Dark


Unfortunately, most home buyers have no idea what a pre-purchase home plumbing inspection is or have had their plumbing inspected recently. Have you had a building examination done before purchasing the house?

The issue is that plumbing is not covered in 99% of construction inspections! Plumbing is one of the most important aspects of a home; it provides you with clean, fresh water to drink, bathe and shower in, water to your washing machine to clean clothing, and trash disposal. Imagine living without any of these key aspects; simple actions we do every day would become difficult and time-consuming.

Repairing a plumbing problem might cost tens of thousands of dollars. The most prevalent issue with household plumbing is tree roots infiltrating the pipes. Tree roots will eventually lead to water pipelines if there is an abundance of oxygen, water, and nutrients. Tree roots in pipes allow debris and garbage to become entangled, eventually clogging the drain or causing the pipes to completely collapse. Another issue is that the soil compresses and shifts when it gets wet and then dries out, putting a lot of strain on the pipes and causing them to collapse or split. 

Any underground broken or leaky pipe can cause a sinkhole, which causes substantial damage when the area between the pipe and the surface collapses. This can happen anywhere from beneath your house to under your driveway. If an undercut occurs beneath your home, it can cause foundation damage that can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

As a result, a plumbing inspection is just as necessary as a building and pest inspection. If you're going to invest your money on a house, make sure you have a plumber perform a plumbing inspection.
